Philip's Story: Lifted Out of the Pit

We asked some of our students to share their stories. This is Philip's.
My name is Philip Glass and I am from Wilmington, Delaware. As a young child growing up I had a curious mind. As time went on this curious child grew up into a teenager on a search for identity and acceptance. At about the age of 19, I bought the lie that drugs would answer all the questions in my mind.
The choices that I made from believing that lie led me down into a pit of bitterness, shame and hopelessness. My self-will was not able to rescue me. There was only one that was able to lift me out of the pit. This One was Jesus Christ. If it wasn't for His love and mercy, I would have perished in my sins.
The Lord drew me to Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge to a safe place to recover from drug addiction and be restored back into an intimate relationship with Jesus.
Since I have been at SVTC, God has healed the brokenness that was in my family. He has allowed me to examine my mind and heart, bringing about a change in my attitude. He has provided me with leadership skills, work experience and financial stability. I am grateful for the community at SVTC that has given me a firm foundation in Jesus.
I give all the glory to Jesus Christ for saving me.
"He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord." (Psalm 40:2-3)
