Founded in 2000 by Rev. John Franich Jr., the organization provides free family consultations, Teen Challenge program referrals, recovery resources, and a men's sober living home.
We don't run a residential program. We help families find the right one, understand what to expect, and walk with them through the process from crisis to recovery to rebuilding. Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge publishes one of the largest independent online libraries explaining Teen Challenge programs, faith-based recovery, and addiction support for families.
Who We Serve
Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge primarily serves families seeking help for a loved one struggling with addiction, individuals exploring long-term faith-based recovery programs, churches looking for guidance on addiction recovery resources, and men graduating Teen Challenge programs who need sober living support.
While SVTC is based in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, families from across the United States contact the ministry for help navigating Teen Challenge programs nationwide.

Teen Challenge is a discipleship program, not a medical one. If your loved one needs detox or psychiatric care, talk to a doctor first. That's not our lane and we won't pretend it is.
Sometimes detox comes first and discipleship comes after. Sometimes discipleship is the right path from the start. We help families think through that, but we don't make medical decisions for anyone.
Our Story
Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge started as a referral ministry in 2000. Over the following years it expanded into residential programming, operating men's and women's centers that served hundreds of students. In 2025, SVTC returned to its original model: referrals, family support, content, and community. Read our full story.
